This site is not affiliated with any of the networks mentioned here; we sell eSIMs. How we compare

You may not need an eSIM. If your network includes Europe, or you are going to Ireland, your own SIM already works.

Which UK networks include Europe, and which charge a day?

Roaming charges by network: ten include Europe, five charge £2 to £2.75 a day or sell a pass, each row with its plan condition (checked on 24 October 2026).

Is Europe included in your plan?

It depends on your plan’s start date. The EU roaming daily charge applies to EE plans launched from 7 July 2021 and Vodafone pay monthly plans from 11 August 2021; older plans on both use Europe at no daily charge (checked on 24 October 2026). On Three, only Lite and Lite+ pay.

Where Europe is included in your plan, a fair use policy abroad still applies. It starts at 5GB on giffgaff, Talkmobile and Asda; Tesco states no cap, and iD has suspended its 30GB limit until further notice.

Switzerland is inside the Europe zone at nine networks and charged separately at six; Turkey is outside it at all 15 (roaming in Europe).

Turkey: buy and install your eSIM before you travel. eSIM shops, including ours, may not open on Turkish networks.

Is Ireland included, and what about Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man?

Ireland is included on all 15 networks (checked on 24 October 2026). On giffgaff, Talkmobile and Asda it counts towards the fair-use limit; Three, iD and SMARTY keep it outside theirs.

O2, iD, Tesco, Talkmobile, BT and Asda include Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar. Vodafone, Three and VOXI include the Isle of Man and treat the rest as Europe; EE and Lyca Mobile charge in all four. The Crown Dependencies and Gibraltar guide has each network.

What do UK networks charge for international roaming outside Europe?

International roaming outside Europe comes as a 24-hour pass or daily charge, from £2 on Sky to £8 on newer Vodafone and Three plans; as roaming passes and add-ons with set data; or per MB, from 1p in the USA and South Africa on Tesco (checked on 24 October 2026).

Tesco charges £5 a MB in Turkey, so check your network’s zone list. Ofcom warns about satellite networks on ferries and cruise ships: EE charges £16 for each 10MB there (checked on 24 October 2026). Check that rate before a cruise.

BT Mobile, Asda Mobile and smaller networks

BT Mobile Roam Like Home covers 47 destinations, including Switzerland, the Crown Dependencies and Gibraltar (checked on 24 October 2026, BT Roam Like Home). BT may add a surcharge above a fair-use limit; its pages disagree on that figure and on the Travel Data Pass price, so we print neither.

Asda Mobile roaming includes up to 5GB a month in 46 European destinations, then 10p a MB (checked on 24 October 2026, Asda roaming). Switzerland is not in that list and costs 20p a MB, as in the USA.

1p Mobile, spusu and ecotalk are not checked, so we print no figures for them.

What do Ofcom’s roaming rules require?

Since 1 October 2024, Ofcom’s General Condition C3.15 requires a free arrival text message when you connect abroad: whether the destination is in your plan, the prices, and when any charge period starts and ends (Ofcom: using your mobile abroad). You can opt out free.

UK mobile roaming after Brexit kept a £45 monthly data cap in law at first; Ofcom says those statutory protections fell away at the end of June 2022 (Ofcom roaming protections). Today £45 is a default spend cap at Sky, iD, Three and SMARTY, and £35 at BT; on EE, Vodafone, O2 and several others you set your own.

When is a travel eSIM worth it?

A travel eSIM helps when your network charges for your destination or your fair-use limit is smaller than your use. Our Europe plan is £2.99 for 1 GB over 7 days, data only.

Using your phone abroad on your network keeps your number and minutes; our plan does not. Roaming or eSIM walks through the sums for one trip; how to transfer an eSIM covers running both on one phone.

EE roaming, on your bill £16.50 Weekly EU Roaming Pass · 7 days · your UK data · pay monthly only As published by EE (checked on 24 October 2026). EE charges £2.72 a day to use your UK allowance in its Europe zone (49 destinations) on plans from 7 July 2021, or £16.50 for 7 days and £27.50 for 12 days. Ireland is included at no daily charge; Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar cost the same daily charge. Outside Europe there is no data without a Roaming Pass. EE’s own calculator still shows £2.59; we use the price guide of 31 March 2026.
Travel eSIM, data only £5.99 5GB · 30 days Your card is charged exactly £5.99; you are charged in GBP, exactly the amount shown. The seller is registered in the United States, so your bank may apply its own rules to a payment to a seller abroad.

With the eSIM you pay about £10.51 less.

Roaming keeps calls and texts on your UK number; the eSIM is data only. The eSIM is paid by card in pounds, exactly the price shown.

Frequently asked questions

Which UK mobile network has free roaming?

Ten of 15 include Europe: O2, iD Mobile, Lebara, Lyca Mobile, Tesco Mobile, BT Mobile, giffgaff, Talkmobile, Asda Mobile and SMARTY, each within its own fair-use terms (checked on 24 October 2026). None includes Turkey in its Europe zone.

How much are roaming charges per day?

£2 to £2.75 a day in Europe: £2 on Sky, £2.72 on EE, £2.75 on Vodafone and on newer Three Lite plans, and a VOXI pass from £2.60 for 1 day (checked on 24 October 2026). Each depends on your plan and its start date.

Is roaming still free in the UK?

Not on every network. Ten of 15 include Europe within a fair-use limit; five charge a daily fee or sell a pass on some or all plans. Ireland is included on all 15 (checked on 24 October 2026).

Is there a £45 roaming cap?

No, not by law. Ofcom says the statutory roaming protections fell away at the end of June 2022. Sky, iD, Three and SMARTY still set £45 as a default and BT sets £35, but these are network settings.
