# Best eSIM for Thailand from the UK: roaming, tourist SIM or eSIM, compared

The best eSIM for Thailand depends on what your UK network charges there. EE charges £26.50 for a 7-day pass in Rest of World Zone 1, Sky £2 a day, Vodafone £8 a day (checked on 24 October 2026, [EE price guide](https://ee.co.uk/content/dam/help/terms-and-conditions/price-plans/mobile/sim-only-price-plans/_ee-pay-monthly-standard-and-non-standard-price-guide-31st_March_2026_1.1.pdf)). Our Thailand eSIM from the UK is £2.99 for 1 GB over 7 days, data only. You have four ways to stay connected: your UK network, a travel eSIM, a local SIM or pocket Wi-Fi.

This site is not affiliated with any of the networks mentioned here; we sell eSIMs. [How we compare](https://esimworld.co.uk/how-we-compare/)

You may not need an eSIM. O2 Ultimate plans include Thailand, and Sky VIP Diamond customers roam there free (checked on 24 October 2026). For a short trip, Sky's £2 a day or Lyca's 1GB pass for £5 over 7 days can be enough. Check your network's row below first.

## What do UK networks charge in Thailand?

Roaming in Thailand on UK networks runs from £2 a day on Sky to £5 per MB on Tesco Mobile (all rows checked on 24 October 2026). The zone your network puts Thailand in sets the price, and several networks give no data at all without a pass.

| [Asda Mobile](https://mobile.asda.com/roaming-calling-abroad) | £1 per MB | World Group 1 | 24 October 2026 |

A per-MB rate adds up fast. At Tesco's £5 a MB, 100MB costs £500 (our arithmetic). iD stops data at its default £45 limit, which is 30MB at £1.50.

Vodafone, Three and Sky charge for each day you use the phone, not each day you are away. Three's daily charges rise each 1 April by CPI plus 3.9%, as its price guide says.

Each network's own page is the final word on your plan. Our pages on [EE](https://esimworld.co.uk/roaming/ee/), [Vodafone](https://esimworld.co.uk/roaming/vodafone/), [O2](https://esimworld.co.uk/roaming/o2/), [Three](https://esimworld.co.uk/roaming/three/), [iD Mobile](https://esimworld.co.uk/roaming/id-mobile/) and [Sky](https://esimworld.co.uk/roaming/sky-mobile/) give the full rates.

## Is a travel eSIM worth it for Thailand?

A travel eSIM is worth it when your network charges by the day: 14 days of use in Thailand come to £28 on Sky, £53 on EE and £112 on Vodafone (our arithmetic, checked on 24 October 2026). Our 5 GB plan covers 30 days for £5.99, data only.

Trips to Thailand are long. visits there by residents of Great Britain averaged 23 nights in 2025, and 30.4% of them fell in January to March ([ONS Travel trends 2025](https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/leisureandtourism/articles/traveltrends/2025)).

| Network or plan | 14 days | 21 days | How we added it up |
|---|---|---|---|
| EE, Zone 1 | £53 | £79.50 | 2 or 3 weekly passes at £26.50 |
| Vodafone, pay monthly from 11 August 2021 | £112 | £168 | £8 a day of use |
| Three, Lite and Lite+ from 18 December 2025 | £84 | £126 | 14-day pass £84; for 21 days, plus a 7-day pass at £42 |
| Sky, not VIP Diamond | £28 | £42 | £2 a day of use |
| Lyca, pay as you go | £10 | £15 | 14-day pass with 2.5GB; for 21 days, plus a 7-day pass with 1GB at £5 |
| Lebara | £10 | £15 | 15-day add-on with 7GB; for 21 days, plus an 8-day add-on with 4GB at £5 |
| Our Thailand plan, data only | 5 GB, £5.99 | 5 GB, £5.99 | one 30-day plan; 10 GB over 30 days is £7.99 |

Source: each network's own price page, checked on 24 October 2026. The prices are the networks'; the totals are ours.

These are different products. The network passes use your UK allowance and keep your number for calls; the Lyca and Lebara rows carry the GB shown. Our plans are a data-only eSIM on a second line. Calls stay on your UK SIM; [keeping your UK number](https://esimworld.co.uk/help/keep-your-uk-number/) covers the set-up.

[Roaming or eSIM](https://esimworld.co.uk/roaming-or-esim/) walks through the same decision for any country.

## How we compared eSIMs for Thailand (checked on 24 October 2026)

For 1 GB over 7 days, four sellers charged between £2.49 and £4.99 on 24 October 2026, against £2.99 for our plan. We left out promotions and prices shown in US dollars to a UK visitor, and we name no seller.

| Plan | Sellers' range, 24 October 2026 | Sellers in range | Our plan, data only |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB, 7 days | £2.49 to £4.99 | 4 | £2.99 |
| 5 GB, 30 days | £5.98 to £17.99 | 4 | £5.99 |
| 10 GB, 30 days | £7.48 to £28.99 | 4 | £7.99 |

There is no single best eSIM for Thailand on price alone. Plans differ in speed limits and in hotspot and tethering rules, so compare the plan card, not just the price.

Our Thailand plans are GB and days plans, from 1 GB over 7 days to 20 GB over 30 days. Local networks: AIS and True. The listing marks both as 5G; for 4G/5G coverage in a given town we give no map or speeds.

The plan covers the mainland and islands, including Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi and Phi Phi. It starts on first connection to a network in Thailand, not when you buy it. Hotspot permission depends on the plan, so check the plan card.

Pick the data size by what your phone used in a week at home, and the days by how long you will use it, not how long you stay.

## Tourist SIM at Bangkok airport or eSIM?

We haven't checked local SIM prices, so we give none. A tourist SIM at Bangkok airport or in town is bought in person: take your passport, and expect prices and rules to vary by shop. Set what you are offered against the eSIM plans above.

Thailand SIM card vs eSIM comes down to practicalities. A local SIM gives you a Thai number, but it takes your UK SIM's slot or a second line, and you buy it after landing. An eSIM is installed at home and needs no shop. Pocket Wi-Fi is a separate device to carry and charge.

An eSIM needs an eSIM-compatible phone. Dial *#06#: if an EID shows, the phone takes an eSIM. Our [how to install an eSIM](https://esimworld.co.uk/how-to-install-esim/) and [transfer an eSIM](https://esimworld.co.uk/help/transfer-esim/) guides have the menu paths.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) travel advice for Thailand is on GOV.UK. Checked on 24 October 2026, it reads:

> "FCDO advises against all but essential travel to parts of the south, near the Thailand-Malaysia border: Pattani Province, Yala Province, Narathiwat Province, the districts of Chana, Thepa, Na Thawi and Saba Yoi in southern Songkhla Province. FCDO also advises against all but essential travel on the Hat Yai to Padang Besar train line that runs through these provinces."
>
> "FCDO advises against all but essential travel to areas within 20km of the land border with Cambodia."

Read the full [FCDO travel advice for Thailand](https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/thailand) before you book.

## Islands and travel days: when to install

Install before you travel, at home on Wi-Fi: the plan starts on first connection in Thailand, not on the day you install it. This plan can be installed up to 365 days after you buy it, so there is no reason to wait for landing.

Three steps keep a first night simple:

1. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi, and leave its line off for mobile data until you land.
2. On landing, choose the travel line for mobile data and turn [data roaming on](https://esimworld.co.uk/help/data-roaming-settings/) for that line only.
3. Keep data roaming off on your UK line, and keep the line on if you want calls and texts.

Data roaming off on the UK line stops data charges, not every charge. On Sky, a call you make or a text you send still starts the £2 pass for 24 hours; receiving calls and texts does not. On EE, calls without a pass cost £2.46 a minute and texts 98p.

On the islands, the plan lists Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi and Phi Phi. We give no speeds for single beaches or smaller islands, so keep Wi-Fi as a backup there.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it worth getting an eSIM for Thailand?

Yes, if your UK network charges by the day or the MB in Thailand. Sky charges £2 a day, EE £26.50 for 7 days and Vodafone £8 a day (checked on 24 October 2026). A data-only eSIM covers a week or a month for one price. Keep your UK SIM for calls on your own number.

### What SIM card is best for travel to Thailand?

The one that matches what you use the phone for. For data only, a travel eSIM installed at home. For calls on your own number, your UK network plus a pass. For a Thai number, a local SIM; we have not checked local SIM prices.

### Do you need a SIM in Thailand?

No, but without one you depend on Wi-Fi. Without a pass, EE, O2 and Talkmobile give no data in Thailand; Vodafone, Three and Sky charge by the day; iD, giffgaff, Tesco, SMARTY and Asda charge per MB (checked on 24 October 2026). Check your network's row in the table above.
