# Sky Mobile roaming: Roaming Passport Plus at a daily rate, and where it doesn't reach

Sky Mobile roaming costs £2 for each 24-hour Roaming Passport Plus pass in about 120 destinations, and the same £2 covers Europe, the USA, Turkey, the UAE, Egypt and Thailand (checked on 24 October 2026, [Sky roaming](https://www.sky.com/shop/mobile/roaming)). Japan and Saudi Arabia are outside the pass and charged per MB. Two days of use come to £4 on Sky (our sum); our Europe eSIM is £2.99 for 1 GB over 7 days, data only.

This site is not affiliated with Sky; we sell eSIMs. [How we compare](https://esimworld.co.uk/how-we-compare/)

You may not need an eSIM at all. Sky VIP Diamond customers roam in the pass destinations with no daily charge. Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man cost nothing extra on Sky, and one day of use abroad costs £2.

This page covers Sky Mobile roaming for UK customers, not Sky in Ireland or Switzerland.

## How much is Sky Roaming Passport Plus a day?

Roaming Passport Plus costs £2 for 24 hours of your UK plan abroad, or nothing for Sky VIP Diamond customers (checked on 24 October 2026, [Sky Roaming Passport Plus help](https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-mobile-roaming-passport-plus)). Sky's tariff guide says it "gives you access to your UK plan in over 120 popular roaming destinations including the EU/EEA for £2 a day".

Sky's own pages disagree on the count. The shop page says 120 destinations, the tariff guide says "over 120", and the guide's list has 121 rows. We write "about 120".

The pass starts when you make a call, send a text or use more than 10MB of data in a day. Sky's words: "Roaming Passport Plus lasts for 24 hours, not from midnight-to-midnight UK time." A pass started at 18:00 still covers you at 10:00 the next morning.

One pass covers all of the EU/EEA and Switzerland for those 24 hours. Crossing from France to Spain the same day costs £2, not £4. Turning [data roaming](https://esimworld.co.uk/help/data-roaming/) off stops only the 10MB trigger: a call you make or a text you send still starts a £2 pass. Receiving does not: Sky lists receiving calls and texts as free, and they "won't activate the Roaming Passport Plus pass".

Calls and texts to UK numbers come out of your plan. Calls and texts to local numbers abroad, such as a taxi firm in Spain, cost extra at the tariff guide's rates.

Sky's fair use caps roaming data at 25GB in a billing period. Past that, data costs £2.50 a GB ([Sky fair usage policy](https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-mobile-fair-usage-policy)). This 25GB fair use abroad applies to Diamond customers too.

| Days of use abroad | Sky Roaming Passport Plus (our sum, £2 × days) |
|---|---|
| 3 | £6 |
| 7 | £14 |
| 8 | £16 |
| 12 | £24 |
| 15 | £30 |

## Which countries are in Roaming Passport Plus?

Sky lists about 120 Roaming Passport destinations: the EU/EEA and Switzerland, the USA, Canada, Turkey with North Cyprus, the UAE, Egypt, Thailand and India (checked on 24 October 2026, [Sky tariff guide](https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-mobile-tariff-guide)). Morocco, Australia, [New Zealand](https://esimworld.co.uk/sim-card/new-zealand/), Mexico and Singapore are on the list too.

The western Balkans are in. Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Serbia all cost £2 a day on Sky. O2's Europe Zone leaves all five out ([O2 roaming](https://esimworld.co.uk/roaming/o2/)). Gibraltar is a £2-a-day destination as well.

Two points need care. Turkey in Sky's list is "Turkey (Incl. N. Cyprus)", so the pass reaches the north of the island. Our own Turkey plan does not cover Northern Cyprus. And Sky's pass is your UK plan on your own number, with calls and texts. Ours is data only.

**Turkey:** buy and install your eSIM before you travel. eSIM shops, including ours, may not open on Turkish networks.

For the same question across every network, see [roaming in Europe](https://esimworld.co.uk/roaming/europe/).

## Where does Sky charge per MB: Japan, Saudi Arabia and at sea?

Outside the pass, Sky Mobile roaming is charged per MB: £2.16 in Japan, Saudi Arabia and Ukraine (checked on 24 October 2026, [Sky tariff guide](https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-mobile-tariff-guide)). At £2.16 a MB, 10MB costs £21.60 (our arithmetic: 10 × £2.16).

You pay per MB outside Roaming Passport Plus at these tariff guide rates:

| Place | Data per MB |
|---|---|
| Japan, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine | £2.16 |
| Jordan | £4.32 |
| Bhutan, Sudan | £7.20 |
| Liberia | £12 |
| Monaco | £0.36 |
| Maldives, Seychelles | no data roaming |
| "Over the sea" | no data roaming |

Source: [Sky tariff guide, 14 October 2026](https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-mobile-tariff-guide), checked on 24 October 2026.

Sky Mobile data roaming has a default spend cap of £45 per month per SIM ([Sky spend cap help](https://www.sky.com/help/articles/data-roaming-spend-cap)). In Japan that cap is used up after about 20MB (our arithmetic: £45 ÷ £2.16). Sky says you can switch the cap off, but "you can't change the amount".

The £45 is Sky's setting, not the law. Ofcom's statement of 22 March 2024 says "statutory protections designed specifically to protect customers when roaming fell away" at the end of June 2022 ([Ofcom roaming protections](https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-and-broadband/bills-and-charges/mobile-roaming-customer-protections)).

Monaco is the odd one. It is not in the pass, so a day trip from Nice costs £0.36 a MB on Sky. Sky also blocks roaming in Zimbabwe, from 1 May 2026, and in the Central African Republic, from 10 June 2026.

"Over the sea" means no data on ships and ferries. On other networks, a ship's mobile signal can cost far more than normal roaming. Use the ship's Wi-Fi, and read [the cruise page](https://esimworld.co.uk/cruise/). Our eSIMs work on land networks only.

With Japan not in Roaming Passport Plus, the trap is the name: you expect £2 a day and get a per-MB price. A travel eSIM for Japan is £2.99 for 1 GB over 7 days, data only ([Japan eSIM](https://esimworld.co.uk/esim-japan/)).

## Sky Roaming Passport or a travel eSIM for a fortnight?

Sky's daily roaming charge is the same £2 in Spain and Thailand, so your sum depends on how many days you use the phone. Seven days of use come to £14 on Sky and fifteen to £30 (our sum, checked on 24 October 2026).

| Destination | Sky, 7 days of use (our sum) | Our plan, 1 GB for 7 days, data only |
|---|---|---|
| [Europe](https://esimworld.co.uk/esim-europe/) | £14 | £2.99 |
| [USA](https://esimworld.co.uk/esim-united-states/) | £14 | £2.99 |
| [Turkey](https://esimworld.co.uk/esim-turkey/) | £14 | £2.99 |
| [Japan](https://esimworld.co.uk/esim-japan/) | per MB, £2.16 | £2.99 |

Sources: Sky figures from the [Sky tariff guide](https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-mobile-tariff-guide), checked on 24 October 2026; most of our plans start on first connection abroad (check the activation rule shown on your plan).

They are different products. Sky's pass gives you your UK allowance, minutes and texts on your own number, up to 25GB. Ours is a second, data-only line with 1 GB over 7 days. From the second day of use, Sky's running total of £4 is above the £2.99 for our Europe plan (our arithmetic). By day 14, Sky's total is £28.

Long stays meet a second limit. Sky counts each £2 pass towards the £45 data roaming spend cap. "When you reach the £45 limit, you won't be able to use any more out of plan data abroad until next month," Sky says, though calls and texts still work. By our arithmetic, 22 passes come to £44, so a stay of more than about three weeks in one month can reach the cap.

If you are a Sky VIP Diamond customer, stay on Sky. If you need data in Japan, more than 25GB, or a stay of more than three weeks, a second line helps. For the maths on any network, see [roaming or eSIM](https://esimworld.co.uk/roaming-or-esim/).

## Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man on Sky

Sky treats Ireland, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man as home, at no extra cost (checked on 24 October 2026, [Sky spend cap help](https://www.sky.com/help/articles/data-roaming-spend-cap)). Sky's words: "you can use your UK data plan at no extra cost". Gibraltar is not in that group; it is a £2-a-day destination.

Ireland is included like home on all 15 UK networks, so you need no travel eSIM there. Our Europe plan does not cover Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man. For every network side by side, see [Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar](https://esimworld.co.uk/roaming/crown-dependencies-gibraltar/).

Sky's £45 data roaming spend cap does not apply in these four places either.

## eSIM on Sky Mobile: activation and transfer

Sky's eSIM page says only: "To shop eSIMs, get in touch with us or visit your local Sky store" (checked on 24 October 2026, [Sky eSIM help](https://www.sky.com/help/articles/esim-sky-mobile)). We found no plans, prices or transfer steps on it, so we print none. For your own line, read Sky's eSIM help or ask Sky.

The phone makers' own steps for adding or moving an eSIM are in [how to transfer an eSIM](https://esimworld.co.uk/help/transfer-esim/).

A Sky eSIM is your Sky line and your number. A travel eSIM from us is a second, data-only line beside it. A dual SIM phone holds both: Sky for calls and texts, the travel line for data, with data roaming off on the Sky line ([data roaming settings](https://esimworld.co.uk/help/data-roaming-settings/)). A call you make or a text you send on the Sky line still starts a £2 pass; receiving calls and texts does not. To keep your UK number reachable, read [keeping your UK number](https://esimworld.co.uk/help/keep-your-uk-number/).

## Do I need to tell Sky Mobile I'm going abroad?

No. Sky says "You don't need to order or add the pass separately": it starts by itself in a Roaming Passport Plus destination (checked on 24 October 2026, [Sky Roaming Passport Plus help](https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-mobile-roaming-passport-plus)). For Sky Mobile use abroad, do four things before you fly.

1. Check your destination against the pass list, then against the per-MB list for Japan and similar places. The tariff guide also lists where roaming is blocked.
2. Check your monthly spend cap. Sky: "To use the Roaming Passport Plus pass for a week's holiday, your spend cap would need to be at least £14 a month". A cap of £0 blocks the phone abroad.
3. Check your phone. Sky says "You'll need a phone that's compatible with something called VoLTE Roaming".
4. Read the free message you get when you connect abroad. Ofcom's General Condition C3.15 requires it to state the prices and any fair-use limit ([Ofcom: using your mobile abroad](https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-and-broadband/saving-money/using-your-mobile-abroad)).

## Frequently asked questions

### How much is Sky Roaming Passport Plus per day?

It is £2 for 24 hours (checked on 24 October 2026). The pass starts when you make a call, send a text or use more than 10MB of data in a day. Sky VIP Diamond customers pay nothing. Past 25GB in a billing period, data costs £2.50 a GB.

### Is EU roaming free on Sky Mobile?

No. Sky Mobile EU roaming costs £2 a day through Roaming Passport Plus (checked on 24 October 2026). Only Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man come at no extra cost, and Sky VIP Diamond customers pay no daily charge.

### Is Japan in Sky Roaming Passport Plus?

No. Sky charges data in Japan per MB, at £2.16 (checked on 24 October 2026). Saudi Arabia and Ukraine cost the same. Sky's default £45 data roaming spend cap is used up after about 20MB (our arithmetic), so plan on Wi-Fi or another line for data.

### Do I need to tell Sky Mobile I am going abroad?

No. The pass starts by itself when you make a call, send a text or use more than 10MB in a Roaming Passport Plus destination. Check that your monthly spend cap covers £2 for each day of use. Sky blocks roaming in Zimbabwe and the Central African Republic.

### Should I leave data roaming on or off with Sky Mobile?

On, if you want Sky's pass to give you data abroad. Off on the Sky line, if a travel eSIM carries your data. A call you make or a text you send on the Sky line still starts a £2 pass; receiving calls and texts does not.

### Is the £45 Sky roaming limit the law?

No. Sky sets a data roaming spend cap of £45 per month per SIM by default, and the £2 pass counts towards it (checked on 24 October 2026). Ofcom says the statutory roaming protections ended in June 2022, so the limit is Sky's own setting.
