# iD Mobile roaming: Roam Free destinations, Roam Beyond and out-of-plan rates
iD Mobile roaming is included in 50 Roam Free destinations on every plan, PAYG too. At the moment iD lets you use your full UK data allowance in them at no extra cost (checked on 24 October 2026, [iD fair usage policy](https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-support/eu-roaming/fair-usage-policy)). Outside them, iD sells Roam Beyond add-ons from £5, or charges per MB: £1.50 in Turkey and £9.60 in the UAE.

You may not need an eSIM for Europe. Your iD plan already works across the EU, Norway, Iceland and the Republic of Ireland. A travel eSIM helps in Switzerland, Turkey or the UAE, if iD brings back its 30GB limit and you need more, or when you want a separate data line.
## Which countries are free to roam on iD Mobile?
iD Mobile free roaming countries are called Roam Free destinations, and iD counts 50 (checked on 24 October 2026, [iD roaming](https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-support/roaming)). They cover the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, the Vatican, the Canary Islands, Madeira and the Azores. Four more are Band 2: Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan and North Macedonia. There, iD says, your remaining allowance covers calls and texts only to the UK or the country you are in.
The Republic of Ireland is in the list, and iD's 30GB limit does not apply there: "You can use your texts, calls, and data in Ireland just as you would in the UK." A trip to Dublin needs no travel eSIM on iD or on any of the [15 UK networks we compare](https://esimworld.co.uk/roaming/).

Switzerland is not in the list. You need a Roam Beyond add-on or you pay £1.50 a MB (more below). Turkey is not in it either, and the UAE is not in the list or in Roam Beyond.

## Is there a data limit in Roam Free destinations?
Normally yes: EU roaming up to 30GB a month from your plan, for customers who joined or upgraded on or after 21 June 2023. At the moment iD has suspended it. Its policy says: "From 1 October 2024 and until further notice, all customers can use their full UK data allowance in Roam Free destinations, at no extra cost!" (checked on 24 October 2026, [iD fair usage policy](https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-support/eu-roaming/fair-usage-policy)).
iD adds: "We'll notify you when the promotion ends and when the 30GB Roaming data limit is reinstated." So the promotion is temporary. Check iD's page before each trip.
If you joined or upgraded on or before 20 June 2023, iD says you can use your full allowance in Roam Free without a surcharge. For everyone else, the limit works like this when it applies:

iD says its policy covers all Roam Free destinations "excluding Ireland". The table is a summary of iD's text; the wording on the page is what counts for your own contract.
A 30GB limit is a lot for a fortnight in Spain. It matters if you hotspot for a laptop or stay abroad for weeks. For that, a separate data line keeps your iD allowance for home.
## What is Roam Beyond, and where does it work?
Roam Beyond is iD's data add-on for about 50 destinations outside Roam Free, from £5, added to your current plan (checked on 24 October 2026, [iD roaming](https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-support/roaming)). iD's wording is "50 additional destinations"; its page code lists 49, so we say about 50.

The destinations include the USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Japan, India, Thailand, Egypt, [Morocco](https://esimworld.co.uk/sim-card/morocco/) and Switzerland. iD Mobile Turkey roaming works the same way: Turkey is a Roam Beyond destination, not Roam Free.
The add-on needs no separate eSIM and runs on your iD number. You buy it in the iD Mobile app or at my.idmobile.co.uk. iD's tip is to buy it "while you're still in the UK", or to keep mobile data off on arrival until you are on Wi-Fi.
Check the destination before you leave. Roam Beyond does not cover the UAE, Israel, Brazil, South Korea or Saudi Arabia: those fall to the per-MB rate in the next section.

## What does iD charge out of plan: USA, Turkey, Dubai?
iD's out-of-plan roaming rates are 30p a MB in the USA, £1.50 a MB in Turkey, Egypt, Thailand and Switzerland, and £9.60 a MB in the UAE, the same on pay monthly and PAYG (checked on 24 October 2026, [iD roaming](https://www.idmobile.co.uk/help-and-support/roaming)).
These are rates, not bundles. iD also says: "Regardless of your destination, we have a £45 roaming data limit in place to protect you from excessive charges." This is a data roaming cap iD sets itself. Ofcom confirms the old statutory protections ended in June 2022, so £45 is a default iD chose, not the law ([Ofcom](https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-and-broadband/bills-and-charges/mobile-roaming-customer-protections)).
iD's page goes on: "If you want to remove the £45 Roaming cap, please contact us." On some networks you set your own spend cap; on iD the £45 is there by default.
What £45 buys at each rate is our arithmetic from iD's published figures:

About 4.7MB in the UAE is the Dubai trap. It is not a Roam Beyond destination, so iD has no add-on there, and the per-MB rate is the only iD option. At £9.60 a MB, 100MB would cost £960 without the cap, our arithmetic. Ask iD before you leave if you plan to lift it.
iD Mobile roaming at sea costs £9.60 a MB too, on ships, ferries and cruise liners, and calls cost £6 a minute. A phone on a ferry can join a maritime network without you noticing. ## Roam Beyond or a travel eSIM for Turkey or Dubai?
For Turkey, iD's smallest single Roam Beyond add-on that covers seven days is 20GB for 10 days at £35; our Turkey plan is £2.99 for 1 GB over 7 days, data only (checked on 24 October 2026). For Dubai, iD has no add-on to compare.

Compare the products, not the prices. The iD add-on gives 20GB of data on your iD line and number. Our plan is 1 GB, data only, and its days start when it first connects abroad. For a week of streaming and hotspot, 1 GB is too small; the product pages list larger plans.
For iD Mobile USA roaming on a day trip or a stopover, the £5 Roam Beyond add-on gives 2GB for 1 day.
**Turkey:** buy and install your eSIM before you travel. eSIM shops, including ours, may not open on Turkish networks.

## eSIM on iD Mobile: activation and transfer
iD sends an email with a QR code after you order: on SIM only straight away, with a phone after delivery (checked on 24 October 2026, [iD eSIM](https://www.idmobile.co.uk/esim)). iD says the download takes "approximately an hour", and eSIMs work on phones, not tablets or watches.
To check your phone takes one, dial *#06#: an [EID](https://esimworld.co.uk/glossary/) on screen means it does.
For a replacement, use the iD Mobile app or my.idmobile.co.uk. Delete the old eSIM after you install the new one. The phone makers' menu paths for moving an eSIM are in [how to transfer an eSIM](https://esimworld.co.uk/help/transfer-esim/).
Your iD eSIM is your iD line, with your number. A travel eSIM from us is a second, data-only line next to it. ## Frequently asked questions
### Can I use iD Mobile in Turkey?
Yes, but not as part of Roam Free. Turkey is a Roam Beyond destination, with add-ons from £5 for 2GB over 1 day. Without an add-on, iD charges £1.50 a MB (checked on 24 October 2026). If you want a travel eSIM, buy and install it before you travel.
### Is iD Mobile free to use abroad?
Yes, in 50 Roam Free destinations. iD says that from 1 October 2024 and until further notice you can use your full UK data allowance there at no extra cost (checked on 24 October 2026). Outside those destinations you pay for a Roam Beyond add-on or per MB.
### Why is my iD Mobile not working abroad?
Usually roaming is not switched on. iD says to enable it in the iD Mobile app or My Account, and in your phone settings. Roaming also stops at your allowance or your bill cap, and iD's £45 roaming data limit applies wherever you are: in the UAE that is about 4.7MB.
### What countries are included in iD Mobile EU roaming?
50 Roam Free destinations: the EU countries plus Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey, the Isle of Man and four Band 2 destinations such as Belarus. Switzerland and Turkey are not in the list (checked on 24 October 2026). In Ireland the 30GB limit does not apply.
### How do I get an eSIM on iD Mobile?
iD emails you a QR code after you order. On SIM only it arrives straight away; with a phone it arrives after delivery. Dial *#06# first: an EID on screen means your phone takes an eSIM.
